Goldendoodles of Niagara
And we call it "Puppy Love"....
Hopefully this page will clear up the confusion of what makes what:
F1 = Golden Retriever x Poodle
F1B = F1 Goldendoodle x Poodle
F2 = F1 Goldendoodle x F1 Goldendoodle This pairing produces the highest percentage of flat coated doodles as both parents will carry the Improper Coat Gene. Both parents with also carry the gene for No Face Furnishings from their Golden Retriever parents. This will produce a dog that looks like a strange golden retriever. Your doodle face will NEVER come in. This is the worst combination for allergies also. This pairing defeats the purpose of this breed. They have the worst odds of shedding also. This pairing will not be bred here at Goldendoodles of Niagara. We actually genetically test our parent dogs to be sure this fiasco does not happen anytime we breed two goldendoodles together. Correction: The only worse combination would be to cross an F1 goldendoodle back to a golden retreiver.
F2B = F1 Goldendoodle x F1B Goldendoodle
F3 aka (Multi-gen) = F1B Goldendoodle x F1B Goldendoodle OR
F3 = F1B Goldendoodle x F2B Goldendoodle OR
F3 = F2 Goldendoodle x F2 Goldendoodle OR
F3 = F2B Goldendoodle x F2B Goldendoodle OR
F3 or F1BB = F1B crossed back to a Poodle - (dna testing of the curl gene of the F1B is a must before breeding this generation)
** Please note that a Goldendoodle crossed back to a Golden Retriever is not an F1B! This cross is never recommended when non shedding is the goal. This cross could shed as much as a purebred Golden Retriever. This pairing should only be done with a lot of thought to preserve other qualities such a temperment and intelligence. These dogs will not have the curly teddy bear look of the F1 or the F1B. They will, however, be very easy to groom.
Just remember that the most Hybrid Vigour is achieved by the first generation F1.
Hybrid Vigour is lost with every crossback.....BUT what is gained on a Poodle Crossback such as in an F1B, F2B or an F3 is more of the non-shed and hypo-allergenic qualities. The curlier the dog, the more non-shed and hypo-allergenic it is. They do require more grooming!
Also remember that goldendoodles in all cases are a hybrid dog...therefore every litter can have some wavy (one copy of the curl gene) or very curly (2 copies of the curl gene ).....even F1B and F2B litters.
I Highly Recommend the Orthopedic Kuranda Dog Bed for Puppies and Adults in the Vinyl Weave or Nylon Weave. They are indestructible! The colour shown is the Walnut Frame with the Sierra Colour Bed. There is a Link to Kuranda Dog Beds on the Crate Training Tab.

My One Year Old Grand-daughter Eveline loves to be out on the doggie porch feeding them kibble from their bowls. Each doodle waits patiently for her to give them one......Our Doodles can be trusted with small children
